PhD thesis was defended by Nadezhda Gatina, Head of Seismic Interpretation and Reservoir Characterization Department of CJSC MiMGO

PhD theme was “Geological structure and prospects for oil and gas potential in the zones of the anomalous section (sand injections) of the Bazhenovo-Achimov deposits of the Latitude Ob-river region of Western Siberia”, specialty 1.6.11 - “Geology, prospecting, exploration and exploitation of oil and gas fields” (in geological and mineralogical sciences). Thesis defense took place on June 16, 2023 at a meeting of the dissertation council of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov.

Gatina Nadezhda has been working at CJSC MiMGO (part of the scientific system of the Federal State Budgetary Institution VNIGNI) since 2009 in positions from junior researcher (2009) to head of the department (since 2012 the department of geological interpretation support, since 2019 Seismic Interpretation and Reservoir Characterization Department).

Supervisor Poroskun Vladimir, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIGNI", Moscow.

Scientific consultant: Gavrilov Sergey, PhD in Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, CEO of CJSC MiMGO, Moscow.

The object of research is the zones of the anomalous section (abbreviated as AR) or in other words – sand injections - of the Bazhenovo-Achimov deposits of the Latitude Ob-river region of Western Siberia. The subject is sandy-silty-argillaceous deposits enclosed within typically "Bazhenovo" high-bituminous carbonate-argillaceous-siliceous varieties – Black Shales Bazhenovo formation.

On the example of the Potochnaya area (with approbation in other zones of the AR), when combining seismic and well data (log-data, core), a seismogeological model of the AR zone was built, which describes the geological structure of the intrusion body of younger sandy-silty-clay inclusions similar to the rocks of the Achimov strata, into older Bazhenovo deposits.

Inside the intrusion body, two parts are distinguished with fundamentally different morphology of the structure, depending on the predominant type of gravitational sediment transport /mass transport. Oil deposits in sandy-silty reservoirs of the AR zones are confined to structurally and lithologically limited traps in bodies of two types: in the proximal part, a fractional-block geometry is noted, reflecting the bodies of slides, in the distal part, a channel-like connected-elongated form of sandy-silty bodies, reflecting clastic flows geometry, predetermines the area of deposits.

A set of methodological approaches has been proposed, which makes it possible to trace in detail the geological features within each zone of the AR according to seismic and well data. For the first time, analogs of AR zones in other oil and gas bearing basins and rock outcrops on the surface have been proposed. Giant sand injection complexes were described compared to Western Siberia sand injections. Regularities were established in the operation of production wells drilled within the zone of the AR. On this basis recommendations were developed for the additional exploration of hydrocarbon deposits and production drilling within the zones of the AR in the Latitude Ob-river region of Western Siberia.
