Hydrocarbon reserves estimation

The reserves estimation sector, as its name implies, focuses on the estimation of geological oil, gas and gas condensate reserves. Normally, when there is sufficient geological and geophysical information available, the estimation of geological oil, gas and gas condensate reserves is carried out by the volumetric method based on 2D or 3D numerical modeling in special-purpose geological software. Similar deposits data from neighbouring fields may be used in case of lack of information, which is common in prospecting areas. The team has studied all the major petroleum provinces in Russia over the many years of experience in this field, as well as a number of regions abroad, including Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Middle East, so it has a solid database available for such scenarios. The projects that have been successfully delivered include numerous formation models traditionally classified as hard-to-recover reserves: Bazhenov and Vasyugan formations, Achimov and Domanic depositions.

The reserves estimation report is compiled with ongoing supervision and approval by the customer's representatives and senior experts of the State Reserves Committee.

  • Director of CJSC MiMGO, expert in geological modeling and project development, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, expert of the State Reserves Committee, expert of the Eurasian Union of Experts on Subsoil - Gavrilov S.S.;
  • Geology Chief Advisor, Dr. Sci. in Geology and Mineralogy, the State Reserves Committee expert in geology (oil and gas reserves estimation), expert of the Eurasian Union of Experts on Subsoil - Poroskun V.I.;
  • Chief expert, Dr. Sci. in Geology and Mineralogy, the State Reserves Committee expert in the area of physical and chemical properties of gas and condensate, the Eurasian Union of Experts on Subsoil expert - Fuks A.B.;
  • Head of Department, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, the State Reserves Committee expert in geology and modeling, expert of the Eurasian Union of Experts on Subsoil - Frenkel S.M.;
  • Chief Advisor, Dr. Sci. in Geology and Mineralogy, expert and member of the State Reserves Committee Advisory Board / Central Development Commission - Persilje V.I.;
  • Chief expert, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, expert and member of the State Reserves Committee Advisory Board / Central Development Commission (technical and economic assessment), expert of the Eurasian Union of Experts on Subsoil - Iutina M.M.

CJSC MiMGO experts mostly have to perform reserves estimation and real-time reserves estimation according to the methodology approved by Rosnedra State Reserves Committee, including the classification adopted in the Russian Federation (the latest update dated 2013, effective since 2016). However, our experts can also perform reserves estimation using PRMS (SPE) or probabilistic reserves estimation based on 3D multivariable geological modeling. Geological modeling in special-purpose software integrates all the available and verified geological and geophysical field data and will not only be used as the basis for reserves estimation, but also for further hydrodynamic modeling. The initial cubes of lithological and filtration and volumetric distribution can be either rescaled or left unchanged, according to the tasks and field size. Reserves estimation and reservoir engineering staff members have a higher professional degree and at least 5 years of relevant work experience, and chief experts and department heads - over 10 years of relevant experience. Over the last 3 years, our experts have successfully prepared and defended over 30 reserves estimation reports (including current ones) and design documents for virtually all the Russian regions: Western Siberia, Eastern Siberia, Ural-Volga region, Timan-Pechora, etc.
