Integrated interpretation of seismic and borehole data

CJSC MiMGO has acquired considerable experience by having successfully completed projects on integrated interpretation of geological and geophysical data at both regional and area scales, combining 2D and 3D seismic data.

Integrated interpretation of seismic and log data includes structural and tectonic modeling (travel time interpretation) and forecasting pay zone properties and structure in the inter-well space (dynamic interpretation).

The structural interpretation involves a detailed velocity analysis of the cross-section combined with processing velocity data, a priori borehole data and an overview of the dynamic properties of the target strata. This approach, combined with further testing and choosing the most appropriate structural transformation techniques for each target interval, significantly improves the precision of the structural tectonic modeling.

The dynamic interpretation of seismic data is based on sedimentological modeling and facies mapping performed as part of a comprehensive sedimentological analysis.  Both proprietary techniques and conventional methods of cross-section classification by trace shape, dynamic cross-section analysis, frequency decomposition volumes and seismic inversion are applied to map the boundaries of isolated facies in the inter-well space. Application of seismic inversion enables the most reliable understanding of the target formation structure. A combination of seismic inversion data and information regarding the formation elastic properties at well sites allows both qualitative and quantitative 2D and 3D forecasting of the target formation effective parameters, with a probabilistic estimation of the forecast obtained.

Basic types of work to be carried out as part of dynamic analysis:

  • Attribute analysis
  • Seismic-facial analysis
  • Spectral decomposition
  • AVO transformations
  • Anisotropy forecasting
  • Inversion (pre-stack or post-stack)

As a result, a qualitative and quantitative forecast of filtration and volumetric properties in the inter-well space is carried out.

The approach adopted for geological modeling of the target zones provides reliable and relevant information on lateral and vertical reservoir heterogeneity, which is the basis for detailed 3D modeling.

CJSC MiMGO has been constantly adopting and incorporating new technologies and software in its workflow. We are currently testing and developing the IP Seis software pack (IPLab LLC) under a partnership agreement with IPLab LLC . IP_seis is a software pack developed by Ivan Ivanovich Priezzhev, Doctor of Engineering and expert in mathematical and software solutions, author of new geophysical technologies and methods which have been patented both in Russia and abroad and are designed for dynamic seismic data interpretation.
