Geological exploration planning

The project of geological study of subsurface is one of the mandatory permits for carrying out works on a subsurface area and is subject to approval by the state authorities. A well-designed project is the key to cost-effective geological and economic solutions and efficient use of subsoil.

Services provided

1. Prospectivity evaluation of subsoil areas, specification of objectives and an efficient set of operations required to meet them. Prospectivity evaluation relies on an exhaustive analysis of all available data  from previous exploration in the target and neighbouring areas. Therefore, the priority task we are tackling is to compile all available data from all sources and to create databases.

2. Design/appraisal of geological study programs and projects at any exploration stage, which may include 2D, 3D seismic engineering, drilling of prospecting and exploration wells, etc.

3. Justification of the designed exploration methods ensuring the fulfilment of the geological assignment in a cost- and time-efficient manner, involving the most feasible hydrocarbon prospecting and exploration methods, high-performance equipment, instruments and hardware, cutting-edge technology and sophisticated research approaches.

Each of the seismic survey's geological objectives requires unique settings such as: multiplicity, bin size, maximum offsets, largest minimum offset, which are used to calculate the acquisition configuration. Our engineers are highly competent in designing seismic surveys in diverse natural, climatic and geological environments.

Drilling engineering is adapted to the unique conditions and peculiarities of the area, including topography, drainage, permafrost, AHRP and other challenging geological conditions. Our experts will suggest the most appropriate design of prospecting and exploration wells based on the analysis and synthesis of geological and geophysical data available in the study area, including neighbouring areas and regional surveys; it will include a proper well logging methodology; open-hole and cased-hole tests of promising or productive formations (subject to subsurface user request and adjustment while drilling); core sampling, formation fluid withdrawal and their lab analysis, etc.

4. Drawing up recommendations and guidance on adjusting the schedule and scope of surveys for an efficient set of operations to meet the key geological and commercial objectives with minimum effort and cost to the subsoil user.

5. Drafting materials and advising in the course of reviewing applications for amendments to subsoil licences at the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources and its territorial branches.

We offer our expertise in drafting design documentation for a full scope of exploration work, in accordance with current regulations and legislation, as well as providing support for the state geological appraisal of projects.

The high level of the staff expertise will enable the optimum scope of work to be designed so that the most comprehensive and reliable data on the geological structure of the area can be obtained. Understanding the geological structure of the area will contribute to an unbiased assessment of the area potential, or to the further exploration of existing hydrocarbon deposits.
